2010 - Lazy days with Totoro by PunkBouncer 2010 - Lazy days with Totoro by PunkBouncer
Is Totoro a monster or a forest spirit? Regardless, he meshes well with the spirit of Halloween.

*UPDATE* Lit version here: [link]

Scene is not entirely original but I added some "improvements" and adapted for a 3 tone pumpkin. This was never meant to be illuminated with a candle but it does look cool lit.

Time: 4 hours
Media: pumpkin, india ink, acrylic white for eyes
Tools: linoleum cutters, assorted brushes

I've never thought to use the linoleum cutter before, how does it handle? any tips?

it's not very precise and it has trouble rounding cornered edges, but it's great for simply stripping the outer layer and adding a nice texture. i recommend using it in conjunction with an exacto blade for shapes: trace the form with the blade, then as you peel inside the form with the linoleum cutter, the shaving will break off sharper and cleaner. you may want to experiment with different tips.
